This 4 in 1 test kit is ideal for swimming pools and hot tub owners looking for a step up from the domestic pool and spa testing kits. The Pentair Rainbow kit uses liquid reagents to achieve far more accurate test results.
One very useful feature of this test kit is the acid demand test. In situations where your swimming pool water is about pH 7.8, performing an acid demand test will let you how much needs to be added to your pool water to restore the recommended pH level.
Contents include 1 fl oz No 2 pH reagent, 1 fl oz No 3 pH reagant, 1 fl oz No 4 Chlorine neutraliser reagant, 1 fl oz No 5 alkalinity (blue) reagant, 50 rapid DPD No 1 tablets and 50 rapid DPD 3 tablets. Kit also contains a handy Acid demand comparison table and full instructions.


Directions for use

Never let reagants remain in the test vial, clean and rinse after each test. Hold bottles vertically for proper drop size. Take water samples from a depth of 18" (away from return lines). Test tablets should be white and care should be taken not to touch them as contaminents on your fingers can adversely affect the readings.


Instructions for use

DPD No 1 - Free Chlorine/Total Bromine Test

  1. Fill Chlorine/Bromine test cell to line with sample pool or spa water
  2. Add one DPD No 1 tablet
  3. Place cap on cell and invert vial several times to dissolve (15-35 seconds)
  4. Compare colour in cell to Chlorine/Bromine colour standards
  5. Note the reading and save sample for Total and Combined test.

DPD No 3 - Total And Combined Chlorine Test (Not Necessary For Bromine)

  1. Add one DPD No 3 tablet to above test
  2. Place cap on cell and invert vial several times
  3. If colour darkens, chloramines are present. Compare colour in cell to Chlorine colour standards
  4. Subtract ppm of Free Chlorine from ppm of Total Chlorine to obtain ppm for Combined chlorine
  5. A difference of more than 0.2ppm may indicate a need for super chlorination.

pH Test (ideal pH 7.4-7.6ppm)

  1. Fill large vial to solid line
  2. Add 1 drop of solution No 4 (2 drops if chlorine test is above 1.5ppm or Bromine is above 3.5ppm) and mix by swirling
  3. Add 5 drops of solution No 2 and mix by swirling and compare test to pH colour standards
  4. If reading is above 7.8 perform Acid Demand test No 3 using the same water sample. Test and adjust total alkilinity (if needed) before adjusting pH.

Acid Demand Test (If pH Is Above 7.8ppm)

  1. Add solution No 3 one drop at a time, counting drops and swirling test water between drops until colour matches 7.6 to pH colour standards
  2. Refer to Acid demand chart for proper amount of acid to be added to your swimming pool or spa water.

Total Alkalinity

  1. Fill large test vial to lower broken line
  2. Add one drop of solution No 4 (2 drops if Chlorine test was above 1.5ppm or Bromine was above 3.5ppm and mix thoroughly by swirling
  3. Add 1 drop of solution No 5
  4. Add solution No 3 one drop at a time (swirling between drops) and counting the number of drops necessary to change colour to clear or a light yellow
  5. Multiply the drops of solution No 3 used by 10.
